DJ Hero Sells...Okay and More Coming in 2010

NPD sales data for October are out and DJ Hero sales data is in.
Keep in mind that the game came out at the end of the month and NPD sales only account for US sales. However the game sold only 123,000 copies.
Perhaps everyone was saving their money for one of those 5 million copies of Modern Warfare 2, that were sold shortly after. But I suspect once November numbers are in, worldwide sales are accounted for, as well as Christmas sales, the game will have done pretty well.
Activision say they were prepared for a slow start and for the series to grow over time, as was the case with the Guitar Hero franchise. Guitar Hero III sold 12 million copies worldwide but that was a few iterations into the series, so perhaps the same will happen here. Buying another peripheral isn't cheap, especially after so many have already invested in the guitar and drum controllers, but it seems that Activision isn't too surprised by the launch numbers and are going to continue to support the game with DLC and yearly iterations of the franchise.
However the game sold unquestionably poorly on PS2, with only 3,300 copies sold. It will be interesting to see if Activision bothers to putting out a PS2 version next years, if the numbers are that low.
Here's the console specific breakdown:
DJ Hero (360) - 62,000 units
DJ Hero (PS3) - 39,000 units
DJ Hero (Wii) - 19,000 units
DJ Hero (PS2) - 3,300 units

Activision also stated that we can expect fewer Guitar Hero games next year.
Guitar Hero, Band Hero and DJ Hero will all have updated versions, but it seems like band specific versions, such as Guitar Hero: Metallica may be out, in exchange for a heavier focus on DLC.
