IGN has posted good preview of the career mode in Guitar Hero 5.
Some of it reiterates on what we've heard before, like the fact that all songs will be unlocked from the beginning but they also provide lots of new info too. Even though you won't have to play through the career to get access to your favourite tunes, career mode still comprises of a series of set lists of increasing difficulty. Which makes it sound like that having all the songs unlocked, mainly affects quickplay and other areas of the game.
Probably the most interesting new tidbit of information is that every song now has 6 stars to earn instead of the regular 5. The 6th star is earned through song specific challenges, such as 'hit as many notes as you can only strumming up". This sounds like a cool addition and as pointed out by the up strum example, some challenges will be instrument specific.
There will only be one career mode too, instead of breaking it up into a career for each instrument or band as Guitar Hero: World Tour did. This sounds like a nice improvement, as it was pretty frustrating to have to start from the beginning again if you wanted to switch instruments.

There have also been a few small stories over the last few days that I haven't reported on due to switching blogs, that I'll briefly run down here.
The new drum kit has been revealed for the game. As suspected that leaked picture I posted a while ago was correct. There's not much details on functionality improvements but you can see the visual difference for yourself in the above picture.

Santana has been revealed as one of the playable characters in the game. He'll play on the song "No One to Depend On", which will be a Live version.

More songs have been revealed to be in the game but most of them were in the expected setlist I posted a while ago.
