Some big Guitar Hero 5 news this week. First of all Johnny Cash has been confirmed as a playable character and will be featured in his song 'Ring of Fire'. He will join Carlos Santana and Shirley Manson from Garbage (who I somehow missed the announcement on) as the other playable rockers. Shirley will be featured in the Garbage song, 'I'm only happy when it rains'.
But the big news is that Activision has confirmed that the majority of songs from both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Smash Hits, will be transferable into Guitar Hero 5 and the upcoming Band Hero!
This is something that the Rock Band franchise has been doing, with both Rock Band 1 songs and the AC/DC track pack, being exportable into Rock Band 2. So it's good to see Guitar Hero catching up because it's always annoying having to swap discs, when you want to play a song from another game.
Activision had previously stated that the downloadable content from World Tour, would be compatible with Guitar Hero 5 and they reaffirmed this, but with the exception of 6 of the 158 downloadable songs.
IGN will have the full details on how this will work, and I presume which songs will be transferable on Monday (or Tuesday in Australia). So I'll update again, when they do. It sounds like you will also need to pay a small export fee, similar to the process in Rock Band but specifics haven't been revealed just yet.
